Meet the team
Smashed Vinyl strives to champion new music and the cross continental DIY scene. You know how Factory records had their contract written in blood citing 'The company owns nothing, the musicians own their music and everything they do, and all artists have the freedom to f*ck off.'? The legends at Smashed Vinyl have a contract too; it just reads 'we're f*cking boss'. This could be you! Email us if you're a creative who want in on the fun.
Ewan (right) is our founding father. He started this whole shin-dig! He's also got an impressive résumé of previous experience as senior editor and politics manager for [smiths] and has been published by DIY, Blue Walrus and Vapour Trail. He's this generation's "nicest guy in rock" and has the coolest tattoos you'll ever see.
"From Radiohead to Dead Kennedys, Arctic Monkeys to Nick Drake, Green Day to Chris Liberator. I have a varied music taste comprised of all genres (I even love a bit of Britney every now and again) but punk and indie are definitely my specialties. I am excited to have Smashed Vinyl expand and grow as we take on new contributors and feature more of the most exciting bands from around the globe." - Ewan
editor in chief |
Jenny took over from Ewan as editor of Smashed Vinyl during the long hot summer of 2018. She rocks the f**k out as frontman of indie band Chewing Gum and in political trash pop duo ZLUTZ. She studies English Literature at Sussex University and is a founding member of writers collective The Sussex School. She's always giving herself a neck ache from head-banging too much.
"I'm very excited for all the plans and ideas I have for Smashed Vinyl, seriously cool stuff is on the way! I'm hoping to expand the videography department, open brand new branches and also throw a tonne of events on. I want to focus in on social issues and use this platform to raise money and awareness for as many causes as we can." - Jenny
art director |
Max is our incredibly talented and wonderful illustrator and director of art at Smashed Vinyl. He's a freelance animator and cartoonist based in Brighton and Leeds. We think he might be Banksy.
"My music taste is quite varied, I love me a bit of Alabama 3, Dreadzone and Massive Attack, I also think Britney Spears can do no wrong." - Max

Josey really knows her sh*t when it comes to music. Which is good, because she's going to be acting as co-editor and head of music at Smashed Vinyl, scouring every corner of Brighton's rich music scene to curate the very best stuff into this magazine. She's one of Brighton's best musicians herself, making gorgeous wonderful music which is all on Spotify and iTunes.
"My music taste ranges from Eminem to Crystal Fighters and I will listen to anything really, but my main love is indie rock. I love Foals, Paramore and The Killers to name a few but my favourite band has to be Cage the Elephant. I am excited to be contributing to Smashed Vinyl and can’t wait to see it expand and grow even more!" - Maddie
"I'm currently a student, studying A-Levels in English, Media and Film. My heart lies with music which allows me to be incredibly versatile and open to all kinds of styles and genres. My music taste includes the likes of Death Grips, Tame Impala, Warpaint, Nirvana, Mac DeMarco. I could go on. There are some great bands and artists out there that I hope to discover and write about, so stick around!" - Jess

Adam is everybody's best mate. He'll hold meetings with you over a pint, he'll give you big hugs and he'll be able to introduce you to the best new music. He hosts a weekly radio show on URF, Mondays 9-10am and he's the bassist of Particularly Pernickety To Pinpoint Palace (Hidden Palace). He's going to be organising the events here at Smashed Vinyl.
"The northern soul of Smashed Vinyl. I'm originally from the land of Arctic Monkeys but currently I study in Nottingham. I'm a bit of a music nerd and my music taste is kinda varied. From The National to Frank Ocean, Wet Nuns to Jamie xx I pretty much like anything, apart from Catfish and The Bottlemen and The Sherlocks. If you can put up with my Northernness stick around and see what we discover." - Joe
