When listening to Death Grips it’s impossible to put the band into just one genre of music. While some bands would be content with branching out into two or maybe even three types of music, Death Grips insists on covering everything. They can go from hip hop to electronica within just one track. With this in mind their new album Bottomless Pit does not disappoint.
While the first song on the album, Giving Bad People Good Ideas, may not be the strongest track it is definitely a perfect introduction before the band launch into the more unconventional songs on the album. Hot Head is an excellent example of the bands cross genre fusion. Within four and a bit minutes the band - for better or for worse - manage to include MC Ride’s rap, some pretty cool electronic sounds and even a punky edge.
The titular track of the album is by far my favourite, with a dependable beat and interesting lyrics. This is one song that should be added to your playlist.
When approached with an open mind, Bottomless Pit is a unique and interesting album that, along with Death Grip’s other work, is definitely worth a listen.
