Forming in 2011, Irish 4 piece, Girl Band have been somewhat lurking in the shadows. It's a rare thing for a band to be so elusive with the media today. Often, you find up and coming artists are grasping at every opportunity for exposure they can get. However, Girl Band have managed to keep a relatively low profile, allowing their music to speak entirely for itself.
Members include Dara Kiely (vocals), Daniel Fox (bass), Alan Duggan (guitar) and Adam Faulkner (drums). Girl Band have a great selection of incredibly haunting and memorable music videos such as Paul, Pears for Lunch and Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage?, that work perfectly alongside the bands painfully mundane yet turbulent lyrics.
Holding Hands With Jamie is the bands latest album, released in September 2015 under Rough Trade Records. Each song is a story, a day in the life, much like pages from somebody's diary. The album itself plays out as someone's chronological journey through a mental breakdown, taking you as the listener along with them. Definitely NOT a CD for the car (unless you want to crash, which we hope you don't). Lyrically, Kiely has captured an extremely British aura, twisting it into something dark and uncomfortable. Demonic and menacing yet entirely innocent. Girl Band sound like a toy that has been wound up way too many times and left to die out on its own accord – BUT THEY NEVER DO.
