It's Music Video Monday and today it's the subject of growing up - and not being happy about it in this case. From stupid pop-punk to Tom Waits in a box, growing up is a subject that has been beautifully covered by bands and artists since the dawn of time and today we're looking at three of the best videos on the subject.
What's My Age Again? - Blink 182
Is there a better coming of age (and hating it in this case) than Blink's What's My Age Again? In short, no. There's been millions leaving their teens and reluctantlyentering their twenties over the last decade and half, who will have blasted this song in headphones on the way to work and felt a connection to the song. It's what Blink do best; dumb, relatable, catchy pop-punk and the video is as ridiculous as you would expect. It's basically the band running around town in the nude. Blink have been no strangers to getting naked in public so what else you would expect for the video accompanying a song like What's My Age Again?
I Don't Wanna Grow Up - Tom Waits
This video is fucking mental. It features a deranged man riding a bike around a field where the sky is pink and Tom, looking worse for wear, playing the song on a miniature guitar in a small box surrounded by strange lights. In the song Toms cheese-grater of a voice tells the tale of wanting to do pretty much anything except growing up and as the video shows, growing up has clearly driven him mad. Tom Waits is a genius and this song and video only prove that, whilst also hinting that genius also comes with insanity.
Losing Days - Frank Turner
This one from Frank is a heart warming video to go with a heart warming song about the pit falls of getting older. But as the song and video suggests, you're never to old to get a tattoo. The video centres around this idea and shows Frank showing getting a tattoo, sharing stories and playing songs for his fans, which is everything the man is about. If you want to feel better about growing up, despite not enjoying it, this song and video is the one for you.
