Claire Louise Thorn and Ewan Atkinson take a look at some important dates to mark in your diaries. There are some big album releases still to come in 2016.
The Pretty Reckless - Who you selling for - 21st October 2016
A balance between hard rock and grunge with a Hole sort of sound, giving each song by The Pretty Reckless a bad ass female vibe. Their new single Oh My God, to be included, in the album has some heavy guitar riffs and dark melodies meaning more of these bad boys should be expected within the new album.
Green Day - Revolution Radio - 7th October 2016
The greatest living punk band (despite what the band below might to tell you) are back and better than ever! The politically charged Revolution Radio is awash with the sort of punk anthems Green Day are best known for. The first track off the album, Bang Bang, is without the best song the band has released on over a decade. Green Day are staring down the barrel of the gun that is America and it looks like they're fighting back. This album is going to be one of the most important albums of the year.
NOFX - First Ditch Effort
Six Years of DopeOxy MoronicThe Hepatitis Bath Tub and Other StoriesYour favourite dress wearing, beer swigging, out of tune punks are back! That description of NOFX is meant as a good thing and it's all part of why the band are so special. It's amazing they're still going. Despite major drug addictions, fights and every other problem a band could face NOFX are still kicking ass thirty years on. Their latest tracks are infectious and a lot of fun. The also recently released a book, and , which Smashed Vinyl highly recommends.
Kings of Leon - Walls - 14th October 2016
With the massive, yet questionable, hits of Sex On Fire and Use Somebody Kings of Leon are known to make some killer tracks inside of some incredibly formed albums. Having toured with U2, they released Because of The Times debuting at 25 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and stayed on top of the album charts in the U.K., New Zealand and Ireland. Waste a moment was the first new single to be released showing a more up beat and feel good side whereas shortly after Walls is released as the second new single to the album showing a more emotional and enchanting side. However since their early albums, it seems that Kings of Leon have lost some form. Will the new album see a return to their old form?
Broken Hands - Turbulence - 4th November 2016
This album has already been released in the UK so I kinda cheated a little but this album is like a new dark adventure every time I listen to it. Turbulence gets released internationally on the 4th November. Having seen them live they create an amazing tin foil like lair all over the stage with deep purple lighting to create a space like effect. The album exploring the taking off and coming down of aviation leaving the songs with some meaty chorus’ for the best take off of your life.
White Lies - Friends - 7th October 2016
Formally know as Fear of Flying, White Lies was formed in 2007. Their songs have the perfect balance of euphoria and a dark energy, vocalist Harry McVeigh creating a something seems familiar about this homely feeling creating easy listening tunes.
