Darker than her debut, Alicia Perez appears simmering in a sultry new light on her second single, Nothing.
Saccharine tones lamented over a rising indie pop beat, Nothing is a bittersweet take on walking away and moving on. An exploration of a washed out feeling, a faded emotion. It’s a reflection of those days you feel so tired that no matter how deeply you breath in you just can’t seem to find relief, and then, when the chorus hits, a velvet vocal line ascends and it is that relief. It washes over you, warms you through, leaves the first sign of a smile in the dent of your dimple. Though only her second release Nothing highlights Perez’ songwriting ability, the thought that goes into every line as she combines catchy indie pop with pensive lyrics in a way which often doesn’t work for others the way it works for her.
As with her debut - On Your Couch - her songs seem to grow around her, her 21 years, all the emotions she has felt, woven into her lyrics, climbing like roses up a trellis, blossoming with her as she does. Its her unapologetic display of vulnerability which leaves you feeling strangely serene as the verse accelerates into the chorus - a raw release of emotion which resonates with you and remains sighing in the back of your mind long after the final note has faded out.
Her debut single On Your Couch was on the 27th April and her latest release, Nothing is available to stream NOW!
